Environmental Change-Maker Series

As part of our initial journey to demonstrate the need for unified environmental and sustainability education, in 2020 and 2021 we hosted a series of Environmental Change-Maker video podcasts. This podcast series became the basis for the early development of our educational programs that are now hosted in collaboration with the Cadence education platform.

These initial educational videos covered topics on: Pollinators, Land and Marine Wildlife Conservation, Plastic Pollution, Water Pollution, Climate Change, Animal Rescue & Adoption, Green Technology, Urban Planning, Consumerism, Regenerative Farming, Community Gardening & Composting, and How To Be A Change-Maker!

Re-Earth Initiative Panel Discussion

Re-Earth Initiative co-founders, Xiye Bastida, Joseph Wilkanowski, Tessie Sebastian, discuss their core areas of focus. Xiye is a youth activist in the Fridays for Future climate strikes who recently gave a TedTalk about the 2040 Movie, gave an overview of the existing technologies that we have today (solar energy, urban planning, regenerative farming). If we implement these already existing technologies now, we can be hopeful to have a better outlook for 2040. She also highlighted the background on the Escazu Agreement. Joseph, who has a particular interest in climate and racial justice, lead a discussion about sustainable fashion and how to build a campaign. Tessie covered climate vulnerability, adaptation and mitigation.

H2OO (Heirs To Our Oceans) gives a series of talks spanning two sessions — H2OO is a coalition of youth change-makers from wide stretches of the globe. A panel of youth leaders will be discussing environmental problems in their communities, with a focus on community gardening/food waste and water pollution.

In PART 1, H2OO hosts three youth speakers: Latifah and Rita from Uganda and Sarah from Kenya. They are discussing their program called “Climate Smart Urban Farming” which addresses composting and community gardening in efforts to address food security and food desert issues.

In PART 2, H2OO (Heirs To Our Oceans) hosts four youth speakers lead discussions on the water crisis.

  • Dakota from the Bay Area leads a discussion about nutrient pollution and how it is causing water pollution and dangerous health impacts globally.
  • Seth from Pescadero (California) speaks about his personal experience with water insecurity and lack of safe drinking water in his community and school, due to nutrient pollution.
  • Dominion from Nigeria discusses how community members rely on plastic water sachets for access to safe drinking water, resulting in plastic pollution and flooding from clogged drains.
  • Elly from Kenya will conclude by discussing how everyone needs to be included in the conversation and solutions around water insecurity.
